Biography

Mathilde Jansen lives and works in Amsterdam (The Netherlands) and is working towards a long term second home in Dar es Salaam (Tanzania). After completing social studies, she studied Photography at the Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam (2005), mixed media at the Academy of Fine Art in Prague (2004) and graduated in Photography at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague (2001-2006).

Her work documents and reconstructs socioeconomic, intercultural and environmental developments, adding new dimensions to media landscape and collective imagery.

Through documentary and art photography, she connects reality with fantasy to arise new possibilities and perspectives for today and the future. This interaction raises questions in which real and imaginary worlds correspond to each other. Related to contemporary issues like the influential use of (digital) media in a socially engaged global village.
Mathilde Jansen her work currently transitions towards documentary photography and film, portraying culturally and spiritually interconnected realities. She expects the unexpected, while focusing on sameness and a transparent world economy. Imaging connectedness without RSI and radiation, by playful and subtle interaction with people and nature on site. Taking part of daily life.
